VCI Captive Portal Case Study

VCI Project

There are billions of people living in rural communities around the world without internet connectivity. It’s very expensive to connect rural markets with traditional cellular and satellite solutions.

Our approach to the problem was to deliver high-speed internet at affordable prices by allowing communities to share the cost of a common Wi-Fi hotspot.

The design team was engaged throughout the creation of this early stage business/service, helping frame problems, identify opportunities, test hypothesis using a design thinking approach and iterate on the outputs.

Despite this, demand to be connected is high in these communities. Residents own smart phones and are willing to walk upwards of an hour to connect in some cases.

The design team was engaged throughout the creation of this early stage business/service, helping frame problems, identify opportunities, test hypothesis using a design thinking approach and iterate on the outputs.

A couple of the products featured in this business are the Point Of Sale, which is an application the store owner uses to run the Wi-Fi business within the community, and the Portal residents within the community use to purchase internet plans and get on line.
